The 10 best screen vampires: #1 Edward Cullen

Mark Kermode picks film and TV's most enduring bloodsuckers
  • Max Schreck, Nosferatu (1922) #10

  • Federico Luppi, Cronos (1993) #9

  • Bela Lugosi, Dracula (1931) #8

  • Lina Leandersson, Let the Right One in (2008) #7

  • Lance Henriksen, Near Dark (1987) #6

  • Ingrid Pitt, The Vampire Lovers (1970) #5
  • John Amplas, Martin (1977) #4

  • Gary Oldman, Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) #3

  • Catherine Deneuve, The Hunger (1983) #2

  • Robert Pattinson, The Twilight Saga (2008-) #1

Hard to credit, perhaps, but Stephenie Meyer's blockbusting gothic romances have made R-Patz the most successful screen vampire of all time, outselling previous title holders Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in the Anne Rice adaptation Interview With the Vampire. Hardened horror aficionados may balk, but hordes of Twi-hard fans have swooned to Edward Cullen's otherworldly charms, marvelling at the way his skin glitters in the sunlight, and dreaming of dying (and being reborn) in his sensitively pallid arms. Chastity never seemed so attractive.

The Summer House, part of Rushes Soho Shorts Festival

Rushes Soho Short Festival, London

London's film-making quarter becomes a giant screening room, and a level playing field for creatives from around the world or around the corner. Veterans of the event, now in its 12th year, will know what to expect: short films of all descriptions, professional and amateur, in various categories. Except this time there's even more of it: 170 films from 23 countries. For the classiest stuff, head for the competition screenings to see quality mini-dramas starring the likes of Robert Pattinson (The Summer House) and Jenny Agutter (KODA), plus documentaries, music videos and animation. Plenty of free stuff includes the Straight 8 challenge (shoot a short straight on to a single reel of Super 8, then view the results with an audience), a street party, and sessions on how to get into film-making.

Adam Brody's girlfriend talks about Kristen

Lorene Scafaria, Adam Brody’s girlfriend speaks about Kristen in a recent interview with writelikecody.com

She was asked the following:
There has been a lot of talk regarding Adam Brody and Kirstin(Kristen) Stewart… May you please clarify that for us?
“Ah, Red Band Trailer. I think Diablo’s question was the only real mention of K-Stew. Is that really her nickname? I’ve been around the guy enough to know he’s never said a bad word about his co-stars, especially the ladies… not even to make a certain gf feel better about making out with such a beautiful girl when she was 14. Plus we watch Adventureland like every other week. She’s rad. He’s a sweetheart. The end.”

Adam’s original ‘statement’ was apparently taken out of context,
LA Times posted excerpts of Diablo Cody’s interview with guest Adam Brody on her internet talk show.
One of the questions Diablo asked Adam was:
Do you enjoy being famous, or do you wish that you could just be an actor apart from all that, a la Kristen Stewart?
His response was:
“It’s only gotten worse, I’m sure, being a celebrity. At the same time, I don’t have a lot of patience for people who moan about it too much. Because there are many things you could do,”“It’s like, quit … you don’t need to be an actor, so it’s like if it’s that much of a problem … there’s the door.”

Rob's favorite Eclipse scene

Robert Pattinson's favorite scene in the new Twilight Eclipse movie is when Bella and Jacob kiss.
Rob, who plays the character Edward Cullen in the vampire movie series, has revealed he enjoyed the part of the film when Edward gets betrayed by his lover Bella as she kisses werewolf Jacob Black.
Kristen Stewart plays Bella and Taylor Lautner takes on the role of Jacob.

Pattinson feels he can relate to this scene when Stewart and Lautner get together, he told Turkey's OK Magazine 'There is a scene where Bella kisses Jacob.
'She comes back to ask forgiveness and Edward acts very understanding about this. I think this is a very nice moment.'
The 24–year-old added 'This is the only scene in the whole series that I can identify with Edward.
'I don't think there are many guys who can do this and for me this scene is a sign that he is a good guy".

All about Tai aka Rosie

A note from me

I said at the birth of this blog that I didn’t want something big; it is for folk that really loved the book and the future movie. I have not been looking for a large amount of visits and hits to the blog, it has been suffice to see that many readers have returned time and time again, maybe my biggest joy is the fact that according to my stats, my posts where Tai has been mentioned have received more visits than Christoph, Reese and Robert put together, only out done by people trying to get hold of a copy of the WFE script. Although the movie is due to wrap this does not mean that my blog will not continue, there is still lots to talk about and eventually compare when the film is released.

Kari Johnson Tai’s adopted Mom and owner sent me this delightful account on Tai and some wonderful pictures of her and her family and friends. Enjoy them as much as I have and maybe a donation to Tai’s favourite charity http://www.elephantconservation.org/ would be nice.

About Tai

Tai is cast in the role of Rosie in the film, “Water for Elephants”. She is a 42 year old female Asian elephant. At 8’ 8” feet tall and close to 9,000 pounds Tai really is the biggest star in Hollywood. Her co-stars are never jealous of her looks and talent because of her winning personality and sweet disposition. Who says an over 40, female, plus-size actor with wrinkles and little gray can’t get work?

Bananas, apples, carrots and palm fronds are some of Tai’s favorite foods. Her main diet consists of 150 pounds or so of oat hay with some grass hay mixed in for variety. She enjoys grazing on fresh grass and munching on tree leaves and small limbs. Tai drinks up to 50 gallons of water a day to wash it all down.

Home is Have Trunk Will Travel Ranch in Perris, California where Tai lives with five other elephants and her human family. When she is home she gets baths, exercise, training and relaxing time along with the other elephants. When Tai is on set she gets the same care, along with a lot of human attention from the cast and crew.

Tai travels in a state-of-the-art 48’ long specially built trailer. It has everything she needs to keep her cool and comfortable. The trailer is a good place for her to relax and snack during breaks from filming. She also enjoys stretching her legs and exploring the location.

Ready to Roll

Gary Johnson is Tai’s head trainer. Gary is founder and owner of Have Trunk Will Travel, Inc. along with his wife, Kari. Gary started working with elephants at age 16 and has been living his dream ever since. Tai has been with Gary for 34 years. Joanne Smith is Tai’s assistant trainer. Joanne has loved elephants since she was a toddler. She is a graduate of the Exotic Animal Training and Management Program at Moorpark College. She has been handling and caring for elephants for 21 years, 15 of those years at Have Trunk Will Travel, Inc.

Heading for the Barn

The American Humane Association (AHA) (http://www.americanhumane.org/) monitors animal action in film and television. Anytime Tai is on the film set an AHA representative is present to help ensure her safety and welfare. AHA also observes during pre-training, rest and play time. The director, producers and the entire cast and crew are respectful of Tai’s needs and comfort and a pleasure to work with.

Elephants are the heart and soul of Have Trunk Will Travel and we are honored to live and work with them and to be able to share their talents. Tai is an ambassador for her species, the endangered Asian elephant. We are very proud of the home we have built for our elephants and of the lives they touch through film and public appearances.

The International Elephant Foundation (IEF) (http://www.elephantconservation.org/) is the elephant charity that Tai supports. Gary is a founding board member and Have Trunk Will Travel, Inc. donates to IEF to help elephants worldwide.
