Not that long ago the names Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were just that, names.

But in 2008 came Twilight, the blockbuster movie series based on Stephenie Meyer's books which launched a phenomenon and rocketed the two previous unknowns to stardom.

Two films and two billion dollars later, the hype around the box office hit is stronger than ever, the power of which Stewart admits can be overwhelming.

"It's undeniable energy and that's what I'm responding to usually and that's why I get sort of so crazy," she says.

For Pattinson, the hype is signalled by the appeal of the Twilight brand.

"You look at like every kind of gossipy website or anything and it's always got polls about Twilight, anything, you put Twilight in the headline and people are going to go to it," he says.

With Pattinson 24 and Stewart just 20, life has changed for these two stars, hounded by media and facing persistent rumours that link the pair romantically.

Pattinson has also been the target of some dubious contact.

"I've had a bunch of people say yeah man I met you at this thing... all the time. And you get a bunch of people that found your phone number somehow, it's so obvious that they have somehow found it through nefarious sources." He says.

Before Twilight became a world-wide sensation, Pattinson was known only for a small part in the Harry Potter film series.

Stewart was recognised only for her role as the young daughter of Jodie Foster in Panic Room.

Now, however, they are household names, with series' the third movie, Twilight: Eclipse, about to hit cinemas around the world.

But when it comes to how fame has affected those closest to him, Pattinson says things are fairly normal on the home front.

"The only thing they (Pattinson's family) are concerned about is if you're happy with it. And my friends have just never really cared, I don't think they even saw Twilight until like two years after it was made," he says.

The pair have certainly generated plenty of gossip for outsiders though, and Stewart admits to looking online to see how she is perceived.

"You need to know what people are saying, self-awareness is a pretty important thing. I'm just young and crazy I think. I just can't not know," she says.

She also believes the biggest reward is for her acting to be appreciated by the book-lovers and movie-lovers alike.

"It is sort of the ultimate compliment to be typecast. If you're a huge fan of the book and I'm always Bella to you, then I've obviously done a good job."

Pattinson, meanwhile, is thinking about how long the fame may last.

"I don't really care what I get remembered for, I mean you have no control over that...If I'm dying at 80 and people can still remember it that would be absolutely incredible," he says.

Twilight:Eclipse opens in New Zealand cinemas on July 1.

Kristen: "I've Never Been Dumped."

Kristen Stewart, 20, gave interviews with a watchdog by her side: her publicist controlled all questions. Anyway, she revealed to Folhateen how her relationships ended up, how was her prom and what happened on her trip to Brazil in 2009.

Folha - Choosing between two lovers is impossible. Have you been in this situation? How do you bring your personal life to the movie?

Kristen Stewart - I feel weird when I use at work things that really happened to me. It’s like telling my own story. But the dilemma of the two lovers is something so basic and universal, that I know how it would be. You stand between being sure and being not sure, and I identify with it.

Folha- I hate when a guy dumps you with the excuse that is his problem not yours. Has it ever happened to you?

Kristen – Nobody’s ever broken up with me.

Folha - Bella is graduating. How was your Graduation? Did you go to the Prom?

Kristen - No, I didn’t. I graduated a few months after the movie. I didn’t have a prom, and I studied at home.

Folha - How was your trip to Brazil with Taylor?

Kristen - It was the craziest experience we have ever had. It was too much crazyness at the airport. It was crowded [of fans]. Lots of funny things happened in Brazil. Kind of someone gave me a g-string. I said: “No, thanks.”

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Did Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart confess their rumored romance backstage on “The Oprah Winfrey Show?”

That’s what one online report suggested in the wake of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” stars’ appearance (with co-star Taylor Lautner) on the show in May, but Kristen told Entertainment Weekly how things really went down.

“She glided over to me – and she was strong, by the way, really firm hands – and she said, ‘How are you?’ I said, ‘Good.’ She said, ‘Good. Are you nervous?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I am, but I think I’m OK.’ She said, ‘Good. We’ll have fun,’” Kristen told the mag. “And then she just walked away. And that was the most I talked to her backstage.”

However, Kristen also addressed something she did say – a recent comment in the media comparing paparazzi photographs of herself to rape, which she later apologized for.

“I’m so sensitive about stuff like that. It is the one subject that means a lot to me. I made one movie directly concerning it and I made another one where my character has a horrible history of rape. I talked to a lot of people about it,” Kristen told EW. “I used the wrong word. I should have said ‘violated.’ But I’m young and emotional. It’s just the way it goes sometimes. I probably shouldn’t say this, but I just feel like people got so excited once they saw that it was me. It was like, ‘Sweet! Lets get her!’”

Robert also defended Kristen, taking aim at the “little nerds… on their little blogs” who had attacked the comment.

“None of those associations came out and gave a statement [criticizing Kristen] without being called upon by the media first – who were doing it specifically to get hits on their websites,” he noted to EW. “That whole system of Internet journalists, where no one is called to account, is almost entirely about hate. All these people get away with doing it because they have no responsibility to anyone. All they need is to get a salacious headline and people click on it, because it’s easy.”

However, Rob added that doing “The Twilight Saga” gave the cast plenty of interview opportunities – and chances to defend each other.

“That’s the only way,” he said of using interview time to dispel rumors. “All of us stick together as well. There are so many little nerds behind their computers, on their little blogs.”

“You can say so much more than me. It’s insane,” Kristen said, chiming in.

“That’s not true at all,” Rob responded. “When did I say anything [controversial?]”

EW Interviews Rob & Kristen, "Rape" Comment Addressed

Entertainment Weekly sat down with Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner for a feature interview running in this week’s magazine to discuss the world they inhabit within the Twilight universe, both on screen and off. In today’s preview, the stars open up about the glare of the media spotlight and how its intrusiveness recently led Stewart to compare it to rape — a comment she has since apologized for.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Do you feel more at peace about being in the spotlight these days?

KRISTEN STEWART: I just feel more comfortable, more myself, and I feel less bare. I feel much more like nobody can take anything from me. Before, I felt literally like my chest was cracked open and people could just reach in and examine and pick at anything they wanted, and it just freaked me right out.

You got a lot of criticism recently for comparing the intrusiveness of the paparazzi to rape. The comment got blown out of proportion very quickly, and you apologized.

STEWART: I’m so sensitive about stuff like that. That is the one subject that means a lot to me. I made one movie directly concerning it [2004's Speak], and I made another one where my character has a horrible history of rape [2010's Welcome to the Rileys]. I talked to a lot of people about it. I used the wrong word. I should have said “violated.” But I’m young and emotional. It’s just the way it goes sometimes. I probably shouldn’t say this, but I just feel like people got so excited once they saw that it was me. It was like, “Sweet! Let’s get her!” And then for the people to exploit it under the guise of being morally upstanding is disgusting — and it embarrassed me because I was a part of it.

Did you see it all unfold and then think, I have to issue an apology?

STEWART: No, I was in Korea when it all got bad. My publicist called me and said RAINN had issued this terrible statement.
ROBERT PATTINSON: Who’s Rain?
STEWART: You know, the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network.
PATTINSON: None of those associations came out and gave a statement [criticizing Kristen] without being called upon by the media first — who were doing it specifically to get hits on their websites. That whole system of Internet journalists, where no one is called to account, is almost entirely about hate. All these people get away with doing it because they have no responsibility to anyone. All they need is to get a salacious headline and people click on it, because it’s easy. And it’s quite good being part of these Twilight films because you have to give so many interviews all the time, you can defend yourself. That’s the only way. All of us stick together, as well. There are so many little nerds behind their computers, on their little blogs.

STEWART: See, if I said that? Crucifixion. You can say so much more than me. It’s insane.

PATTINSON: That’s not true at all. When did I say anything [controversial]?

STEWART: You’re really good, but you could say, “I just took a s***on the Queen’s face,” and people would be like, “Oh, I love him! I love him!”
